What is the meaning of the Lord’s Supper ?
References : 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 or Matthew 26:26-29
- Remembering Christs death and his love for us.
- Proclaiming Christ’s death. When we participate in the Lord’s Supper we proclaim : I am taking the benefits of Christ’s death to myself”
- Nourishment the physical nourishment that we receive by eating the emblems mirrors or symbolizes the spiritual nourishment and refreshment that Christ gives our souls. John 6:53-57
- Unity of Believers 1 Cor 10:17 : “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread” The Lord’s supper gives a clear sign of our unity with one another.
5 areas to watch for theological error
I study theology at the Gold Coast Christian training institute. Last night my teacher taught us the the 5 most commonly distorted theological themes :
1. The nature of God’s revelation to mankind
- Common error : That God’s word contained in the Bible is not final or that mankind needs the Bible + anything
- I believe that the Bible is God’s final and complete revelation, that nothing else (no philosophy or science) is required or in fact needed. God’s word given in the Bible is perfect.
- Common Error : When the deity of Christ or the Humanity of Christ is reduced in any way from 100 % God AND 100% Man. If we reduce the humanity of Christ then we reduce his sacrifice on the cross for us and his ability to overcome death as a human being / mortal (Hebrews 2:14-15)
- If we reduce his Deity then Jesus cannot pay for our sins. If Jesus was not 100% God then he was a blasphemer and he would have been worthy of execution ”For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a) nor would resurrection be possible. Salvation therefore depends on the reality of the incarnation of Christ.
- Common errors : Faith + anything is required for salvation. Typically it is taught that Faith + works is what saves, which leaves no room for Grace, ie : the work of Jesus on the Cross.
- The Bible teaches: Salvation is from faith alone, by grace alone! If that faith is real and genuine works will certainly follow. Romans 4:5, James 2:18. The Grace of God demonstrated by Jesus on the cross frees us from the slavery of sin and being independent of God and enables us to live for God and to depend on him.

End of the day
The weekend is at it’s end. It has been a busy week and next week is looking no different. We have moved to our new townhouse. Our parents came down from Dalby to help us move our stuff which was very kind of them. My mum even took a week off work to come help us move, which was very much appreciated.
Jus is starting night shifts tonight so I will be sleeping on her side of the bed for a week. ABC and the BBC will have to keep me company
We had our friends over for dinner tonight which was really nice. We are getting on really well with another couple from our church. I felt that we have grown closer to each other and it is nice to have close ‘couple’ friends. We also enjoy the same things. We played Battlefront together and Emma studied and Jus, Kev and I played games.
After that we had dinner and then listened to a John piper sermon about submitting to the Righteousness of God.
Good night.
New to (mt)
I have just moved my Demeillon.net site to Media Temple to see how their hosting stacks up. I have also just baked my first batch of sconnes and they turned out really yummy. It is 7:54 on Sunday morning and I am debating whether to go to church or whether to clean up our new house. I don’t really want to go to church this morning as we will be going this evening.
In the back of my mind I am not sure if starting a personal blog will be as effective as just updating facebook regularly. On the facebook side it is more accessible but on the wordpress side I get to ‘have a site’ and start developing some ‘internet momentum’.
If you’d asked me what the general topic of my blog is I would answer theology. I am fascinated by theology and intend to be learning about God my whole life.
Cheers
